THE BLOSSBURG COMMUNITY

Location: Located along Route 15 approximately 40 miles North of Williamsport.  The school attendance area includes the Borough of Blossburg and the Townships of Bloss, Covington, Hamilton, Putnam and Ward.

North Penn High School is a public, co-educational, comprehensive, 7-12 high school accredited by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.  Student enrollment for the 2008-2009 school year is 296.

 

CURRICULUM

Every student at NPHS is scheduled for Academic English 9-12, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Biology, Chemistry, American History, American Government, Spanish I, Health and Physical Education.  Therefore, all students have the opportunity to participate in an academic program which prepares them for post-secondary education.

 

Computer Technology is available school-wide.  Computer labs are located in the Business Department.

 

North Penn students have the opportunity to participate in academic, athletic and cultural activities through clubs, organizations and teams.

 

SCHOOL DAY

The school runs on a modified four-block day and a six-day rotating schedule.  Classes meet 84 minutes per day for one semester and/or 42 minutes per day for two semesters.  Major subjects earn 1.0 credit and elective credits earn 1.0 or .5 credit.

 

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

30 Credits are required for graduation:  English-4, Mathematics-4, Science-4, Social Studies-4, Communications-2, World Language-1, Health & Physical Education-3, Community Service-1,

Electives-7, Senior Project.

 

CLASS RANK

Preliminary class rank is computed at the end of each semester for grades 9-12.  Final class rank to computed at the end of eight semesters.  All graded subjects, regardless of the credit value, are considered for ranking purposes.  A weighted system is used for the following courses:  College Algebra, Calculus, Advanced Physics, Advanced English, Chemistry II, Calculus II.
