District Progress

The Southern Tioga School District is pleased to announce that all six schools made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the 2003-2004 school year. The AYP is a requirement for President Bush's Education Plan titled: No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Although all the individual schools were successful, the school district needs to improve in the performance of its special education students. The district administration will be creating a District Improvement Plan to specifically address this concern. The information provided will allow citizens to compare their school to the overall performance of the school district and the state.

AYP is a term used to describe the minimal percentage of school students who have attained a Proficient or Advanced ranking in the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) test administered to all students in grades 5, 8, and 11. The subject areas of Reading and Mathematics are currently being tested with other subject areas and grade levels to be included in future years. Minimum standards established for 2002-2004 school years were 45% in Reading and 35% in Mathematics. These minimal standards will increase for 2004-2005 school year to 54% in Reading and 45% in Mathematics. The following information provided is for both the school district and individual schools. If you have questions regarding any of the information provided, contact Mrs. Sharon Miller, Supervisor of Curriculum and Services at 638-2183.
