Notes from the Principal

One more to go!  Students in grade four will be completing their science PSSA tests the last week in April.  This will conclude the “State Testing Program” for the 08-09 school year.  Tests results should be available by the end of June.

Cell phones have become an almost essential part of our culture.  They can help us monitor our children and keep everyone informed about schedule changes.  They are indispensable in emergencies.  However, they have become an unwelcome presence during the school day.   We are asking that students put cell phones in backpacks if there is a legitimate reason to bring them to school.  They are to remain in the backpacks during the school day.  If students have the phone out during the day teachers will take them and turn them in to the office.  A parent will then have to retrieve the phone.

During the last several weeks phones have been lost or stolen.  Children in class have had calls or text messages from friends absent from school.  Parents please talk with your children about inappropriate content that is being exchanged by students on cell phones.  Students have been caught sharing what amounts to child pornography with friends.  Harassing phone calls made in the evenings have resulted in student conflicts during the school day.  Not only does this cause a disruption in classes, in some cases the content is lewd, and even illegal.  Cell phones, like computers, if used appropriately can be a useful tool.  If used inappropriately, they can cause serious disruption and damage.

Second Grade

The Second Graders would like to thank all the students and staff at LES, Mr. Bower, and the LHS face painters, the many Second Grade parents who sent goodies and prizes, and the many community members who support our Carnival year after year.  Our field trip to the circus would not be possible without all of your continued support and help.

The Second graders will enjoy spending their hard-earned Carnival money at the Item Shrine Circus in
Kingston on April 17th.  They are looking forward to the wonderful circus food and souvenirs and the exciting acts of the circus.

3rd Grade Haiku

Third Grade is studying Japan. They composed their own haiku, which is a Japanese form of poetry where the first line usually contains five syllables, the second line seven syllables, and the third line contains five syllables. Haiku doesn't rhyme and the poetry is usually about nature.
