President, Cathleen Alexander, called the meeting to order in the library.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read by Wendy Fetzer.
Cathleen Alexander read the treasurer’s report in the absence of Carolyn Moyer, treasurer. The profit from the Wolfgang Candy sale was $6,600.28. The current balance in the checking account is $15, 992.69, and the current balance in the savings account is $7,599.21 for a total of $23,591.90. The cost for the PSSA snacks was $122. Any extra snacks were given to the teachers. Some upcoming expenses include field trips, the visiting author and the Magician.
OLD BUSINESS:
The Wolfgang sale: There were some questions about some missing items from a few orders. Denise Harris reported that there were only 3 items missing and they had been shipped and should be arriving soon. She was not certain which class had the most sales and would receive a prize but pointed out that this is in the information from Wolfgang.
The Survey: Mr. Lindner approved the idea of a Spanish class after school for students. Lisa Cendoma has volunteered to teach the class. Cathleen has filed a building request for the class. Mrs. Barnes may help out with the class and the hope is to start the class this year. This would serve as a trial to see how much interest there is for this class. The class would like to meet on a Tues. or Thurs. after school.
Parking: This is mainly in regard to student drop-off and parent pick-up before and after school. Mr. Lindner agreed with the members of LAPAT that a sidewalk in front of the parking area in the front of the school was a good idea. He will look into this further.
Meeting with Mr. Lindner: Cathleen had met with the principal to discuss issues from the survey and other concerns. He liked the idea of a family night. He suggested this for next year.
He also discussed the idea of starting a foundation for financial support for school activities. He mentioned the Jones Foundation in Blossburg. He hoped that businesses in the community would contribute. A letter would need to go out to the local businesses before school is out this year. Next year, a luncheon would be planned to bring interested parties together. No one volunteered to draft a letter.
Mr. Lindner also mentioned he would like to see more literacy activities.
Turn Off The TV Week: Prizes for this will be from the Secret Santa workshop and from Mr. Mac. Denise Harris purchased the grand prize (magic kit). Mrs. Knipe is getting some magic books for prizes as well. Carolyn Moyer will use the form from last year and alter the dates.
The Author: Bruce Van Patter will visit the school on Apr.17. Carolyn will handle the check for his cost.
The Badge and Minute Press: Carolyn is making pins for the cool characters and is currently using a press from her church. She has looked into buying a press for the school. The cost for a kit is $30-$40 initially and then we would need to buy more supplies as needed. Lisa Williams made a motion that we purchase a badge press. Mrs. Wirth seconded and the motion was passed. Carolyn will be in charge of selecting and buying the press.
NEW BUSINESS:
Erin Litzelman presented information on Dr. Mike Thomson who is a speaker who addresses character development and parenting skills. She had been to a SADD conference in Williamsport and found him to be an excellent speaker and feels Liberty could benefit from his presentations. His cost is $2100 for 3 talks. She is looking to LAPAT and any other organization for funding. She provided handouts and there is a web site with information. www.characterclinic.com/schooltalk/
Anyone with questions or comments can email Erin at the school.
List of Volunteers: Cathleen needs a list of anyone who volunteered and helped with a LAPAT project or other school project for the Volunteer Ensembly on May 9.
Thank you letter: Cathleen read a thank you letter from the sixth grade enrichment class.
Requests: 1. For the purchase of the stuffed animals for cool characters for next year.
Both requests have been budgeted for and a motion was made by Lisa Williams to fulfill these requests. Wendy Fetzer seconded this, and the motion was passed.
Staff Appreciation Luncheon: The teachers were asked to leave and the parent members discussed the luncheon. Last year 63 invitations were sent out. This includes all faculty. A pasta dinner was suggested as the theme this year. Some suggestions for the menu were lasagna, a meatless dish and /or possibly vegetable pasta. The menu would also include a salad, bread, fruit, punch, and desserts. Teacher appreciation week is May 6-12. Cathleen will check the calendar and then set a date.
A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Wendy Fetzer and was seconded by Lisa Cendoma.
