LAPAT Minutes
January 11, 2012
submitted by Stacy Gerrity
President Mya Sawyer called the meeting to order at 3:30 pm. Also in attendance were Lisa Williams (Vice-President), Cathleen Alexander, Carolyn Moyer (Treasurer), Erin Litzelman, Dr. Drabick, Pam Thomas, and Stacy Gerrity (Secretary).
A correction to the minutes from the last meeting was made by Stacy Gerrity that the cost of April’s author visit will be $233 instead of $266 since we are now sharing the mileage cost with BES. An addition was made by Lisa Williams that the SunnyD books were received and delivered to classrooms. The minutes were approved as corrected.
The Treasurer's report was given. There is a balance of $6,690.80 in the checking and $4,663.79 in the savings.
OLD BUSINESS:
- LAPAT Newsletter: There was a discussion about sending the monthly newsletter out via parent email addresses. Terri Morgan suggested a form go home with report cards asking parents if they would like to receive the newsletter by email or paper copy. Dr. Drabick agreed to ask Gail to make up the form before Friday, January 20th. Erin Litzelman then offered to set up the the group email account as forms are returned. There was a brief discussion about setting up a Google Groups account for parents in the future. Pam Thomas suggested looking into the purchase of a small copy machine for LAPAT use.
- Santa’s Secret Shoppe: Thanks you cards were written for volunteers by Mrs. William’s class and were delivered by Lisa Williams and Stacy Gerrity.
- Author Visit: Maureen Wright will do two afternoon assemblies on Wednesday, April 25th. She will present two morning assemblies at Blossburg Elementary on the same day, thus we will be able to split the mileage cost. Stacy Gerrity will create a signed book pre-order form to be sent home at report card time. Order form will list prices for paperback and hardcover copies. Books will be ordered as shipped directly to Maureen Wright for signing. They will be delivered to students on the day of the assemblies. Checks for books will be made out to LAPAT.
- Wolfgang Candy Sale: Sales will run from Feb. 9th – Feb. 27th. Money is due to Wolfgang by March 9th for Easter delivery. Kickoff date is set for Feb. 9th.
- Community Dance: LHS building use was approved for February 17th 2012. Lisa Cendoma is soliciting prizes for the auction. Notices will go out to organizations like Yearbook, OM, Booster Club, Class of 2012, and LAMP to participate with activities, food, or drink stands. Erin Litzelman suggested that the junior and senior class do drinks and the Yearbook Staff cover the food. There has been no lead on a DJ, so Dr. Drabick offered to email NPHS/MHS music teacher Scott Faust about borrowing the lighting set and mixed music iPod his music production class has. She will also ask about the possibility of the music production class serving community service hours to act as DJ. A percentage of the money earned from food, drinks, and activities will go to LAPAT. Hours will be from 6:30-9:00pm to allow for clean-up time. Admission price was decided upon as $3 for adults and $1 for student/child. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
NEW BUSINESS:
- There has been a request from parents for more pre-printed excuse notes. Carolyn Moyer had contacted Randy Black at First Citizen’s Bank to print and donate the notes as they have in the past. Randy stated that the back will pay half of the cost this year.
- Carolyn Moyer emailed the January newsletter to teachers in a number of formats to see which was the easiest to open and view.
REQUESTS:
- There was a request by OM to have LAPAT pay the registration fees totaling $80 for two 2012 Odyssey of the Mind teams. Lisa Williams made a motion that LAPAT pay the fees. Pam Thomas seconded.
Next LAPAT meeting will be Wednesday, February 8th 2012 at 7:00 pm in the LES Library
President Mya Sawyer adjourned the meeting at 4:29pm.
