Individual Counseling

--Mrs. Wheeler will meet with students individually to discuss personal issues that pertain to school, home, friends, or family.  All meetings are private and confidential.  The best time to schedule an individual counseling session is during lunch or after school from 3:00-3:30.

Academic Guidance

--Mrs. Wheeler will help students and parents find the resources they need to become more successful in school.  Please call the guidance office if you are concerned about your child's grades.

Senior Planning Groups

--Senior Planning Groups will meet throughout the year.  During the meetings, Mrs. Wheeler will talk to the seniors about their post-secondary plans and make sure all of their forms are completed and filed.

Orientation for New Students

--New students will be paired up with another student to help them meet new people and transition to the school.

Parent/Teacher Meetings

--Although, we have two formally scheduled parent/teacher conference days during the year, additional meetings are welcomed and encouraged.  Parent/Teacher meetings are sometimes necessary for parents and teachers to meet face-to-face to relay information or resolve a conflict regarding the behavior or academic progress of a student.  The guidance office would be happy to assist in scheduling these meetings and/or facilitating as well.

Prevention Programs/Classes

--Throughout the school year the guidance department (along with the SAP Team) will sponsor special events to promote a safe and drug free school environment.  Programs such as Red Ribbon Week, Prom Promise, Girls Night Out, and the Advisor Program are a few examples.  In addition to school-wide programs, Mrs. Wheeler will plan lessons to teach guidance classes to specific grade levels which may be dealing with specific school or emotional issues.

Career Awareness

--This will be done through a combination of classroom guidance as well as field trips.  Southern Tioga School District also has a 10th grade Career Day each year in the spring to make students more aware of career opportunities available.
