During the 2009-2010 academic school year I will have your child in my Spanish I course. The following introductory notes will outline our shared responsibilities and goals.
Spanish I is described in the STSD 2009-2010 course description handbook as: “a basic course offered to students who have no previous Spanish language experience. It will include entry-level drills and materials to develop the four language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Materials will also be used to develop a students’ cultural awareness of the countries that speak Spanish.” This is a one-credit course (Students are required to complete one credit of foreign language in order to graduate from the Southern Tioga School District).
The goal of this class is to:
Achieve novice proficiency in the target language.
The objectives of this course are:
- To introduce basic Spanish concepts, including vocabulary and grammar.
- To introduce communication skills in the target language.
- To introduce students to the Spanish speaking world.
- To introduce and emphasize Spanish culture through art, literature and music.

- Spanish-English Dictionary
- Notebook
Classroom Rules:
- Mutual Respect between teacher, student and fellow classmates.
- Be on time and prepared to learn!
- No food or drinks except water.
