Students will use principles of design to analyze and create interiors and furnishings that meet the needs of individuals and families. This course is designed for all senior high students who interact (now or later) with children at home, school, or at work. The course begins with a look at the many decisions involved in parenting, distinguishing between parenting and parenthood, roles and responsibilities, information about reproduction and pregnancy, the essentials of growth and development, ways to encourage and guide children’s behavior, and ways that families can meet challenges and select resources to strengthen family life. Students experience hands-on activities during the preschool lab.

This course is designed for students interested in careers in the medical and education fields or working with children. Students develop preschool curriculum for the childcare lab course, create activity centers in depth, and communicate with parents through interviews and newsletters. Students gain experience interacting with children through the preschool lab.
