This course is designed for senior high students who are interested in exploring health related careers. Students study the scope of the health care industry and its occupations, personal qualities of health care workers, legal responsibilities, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, human growth and development, geriatric care, health care skills, and the use of technology in health care. General Health is recommended prior to this course. Health Careers Level II This course is designed for seniors who have completed Health Careers Level I and have been accepted into the Level II program. This district-wide program in cooperation with Laurel Health System helps students who are interested in health careers to experience the scope of the health care industry in a rural area. Students are introduced to the services provided by North Penn Comprehensive Health Services and participate in professional rotations at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital and the Green Home. Students observe and assist in clinical and support departments such as the emergency room, laboratory, radiology, surgery, therapy, nursing, medical records, social services, materials management, dietary services, and billing services. Students who are interested in any level of health care, from technicians to physicians, are encouraged to apply for this unique program. Clinical hours can be documented to apply toward requirements for physician assistant programs in the area. Health Careers Level I is recommended prior to this course. |
