The Department of Education (PDE) announced today all schools in the commonwealth will remain closed through at least April 6 as a result of the COVID-19 response efforts. The closure order could be extended beyond April 6 if necessary to save lives and stop the spread of COVID-19.
Under the new timeline, school buildings would reopen on April 7 for two days to allow school administrators, teachers and other staff time to prepare classrooms, set up cafeterias, schedule transportation and arrange other business operations. Students would return to school on April 9, unless extending the closure is needed in response to the situation with the virus at that time.
===============================================================================================================Good Evening —
Southern Tioga School District will be distributing free bagged breakfasts and lunches this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and next week Monday through Friday at Warren L. Miller, Blossburg Elementary, and Liberty Elementary schools from 11-12:30 each day at the student drop-off entrances.
Students do not need to be present if parents are picking up bags and friends, neighbors and family members can pick up lunches with a note from the parent. We ask that those picking up meals remain in their vehicles, and meals will be passed through the window.
Any child that attends a preschool program located at Blossburg Elementary or WL Miller may receive a bagged breakfast and lunch.
We encourage families to continue to be proactive in reducing the risk of illness by not remaining at the pick-up sites once meals have been distributed.
Students who walk or bike to the pick-up location should pick up their bag from the table and not congregate at the pick-up location.
STSD faculty, staff and administration are working hard to best serve and support our communities, and we appreciate your patience throughout this time!

STSD is committed to providing you with accurate and updated information regarding COVID-19 and the evolving status of this illness in PA. I also recognize the importance of communicating the steps that we are taking to respond to this situation. As we begin to address the issues associated with the school closure, we intend to send out correspondence that is accurate and timely. Please remember, the incoming information can change rapidly.
The Southern Tioga School District is closed for two weeks starting tomorrow, March 16th.
PA COVID-19 as of March 15th, 12:00pm
There are 63 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Pennsylvania. There are no confirmed cases in Tioga Co.
Actions STSD is taking:
A core administrative team will meet on Monday to begin implementing and formulating plans for this closure. Some of those action plans will be:
- remote work expectations for all faculty/staff & contracted services,
- providing breakfast/lunch for students (coordination with community groups),
- conference calls with regional district administrative teams,
- continuity of business office,
- communication schedules for our learning community
- developing plans to resume a normal school schedule
- developing plans should there be a longer closure for STSD including educational resources
We are aware you may have additional concerns/issues, please note we are working to address each concern as rapidly and thoughtfully as we are capable. We will also set up a format to address general questions in the near future. We will continue to use social media, parent-link and our website to communicate to our learning community.
I thank you for your understanding, patience, and willingness to work as a community to tackle these uncertain times.
